The Folger Shakespeare Library
Washington, DC
The Wyatt R. & Susan Haskell Center for
Education and Public Programs
With space becoming tight in the original 1930 Paul Cret building, the Folger elected to renovate a dilapidated, nineteenth century, storefront building directly across the street from the Main Building. The existing building was encumbered with complex regulatory issues involving zoning, the building code, the Americans with Disabilities Act and design review by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board. The building's foundations were underpinned and a fourth floor level added beneath. The built result is a modern, energy efficient office building with on-site parking for eleven cars. |
