Firm Profile

The architectural practice Andrew K. Stevenson Architect was begun in 1990. It provides a high level of personal service to its residential and institutional clients. Residential work has included detached dwellings, renovations, additions & alterations and remodelings in Washington, DC, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts and in the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa. As a result the Firm has acquired extensive experience relevant to a variety of contexts, climates and exposures. All of the work is designed and detailed to withstand the elements, to last and to maximize energy efficiency. Institutional work has included projects for research and rare book libraries with museum, conservation, educational and performing arts components. The Firm’s experience is both broad and detailed in these areas. Because of the wide range of project types, both residential and institutional, we are well versed in and comfortable dealing with the complex regulatory issues surrounding design review, historic preservation & Landmark buildings, zoning, building codes & permitting and the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Mr. Stevenson worked for the Washington, DC firm Hartman-Cox Architects from 1976 to 1984 and operated his own design-build company from 1985 to 1990. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California at Riverside and a Masters of Architecture degree from Yale University.
